16/40 Bank Top Nos 1-3

Estate houses. Dated 1837 in gables. By Edward Blore for the Earl of Tankerville.
Roughly dressed stone with ashlar surrounds. Welsh slate roof. U-shaped plan.
2 storeys. 6 bays in all. Upper windows gabled dormers breaking eaves. They and
gables to projecting wings have bargeboards with modillions. Bargeboards also to
porches which project into courtyard from end of wings. Windows chamfered and
slightly recessed. Chamfered mullions in gable-end windows. All windows later
C19 sashes. Lean-to porch with bargeboard on right return. Big, coupled, stone,
corniced stacks, 3 on ridge and one projecting on each return. Small screen walls,
with chamfered square piers and ridged coping, project from porches to form
gateway to courtyard. Square gate piers with pyramidal caps.
