7/103 Gateway to Stable Block
of Roddam Hall


Entrance to former stables now storage and meeting room. Late C18. Probably by
Vincent Shepherd, estate architect to Duke of Northumberland. Ashlar. Castellated
Gothick style. Segmental arch flanked by 2 quasi-towers each with 2 higher turrets,
screening the buildings behind. One pointed window with dripstone and Y-tracery
glazing bars to each tower. Blank quatrefoil in raised surround below parapet of
each turret.

Buildings attached to rear, not of special interest.
