Stable block. 1908 for Thomas Leyland. Scored stucco with ashlar dressings;
Welsh slate roof. Car-or carriage-washing shelter steel with glass roof.
4 ranges round a courtyard. 2 storeys, 7 bays. Boldly-moulded plinth,
rusticated quoins. Tall, central, rusticated and pedimented carriage arch
with date panel in pediment. On ground floor casement windows with keyed
alternating-block surrounds. In 2nd and 6th bays iron stairs on rusticated
stone bases lead to boarded doors in alternating-block surrounds with
quintuple keystones under dormers. 1st-floor windows enlarged mid C20.
Eaves cornice and hipped roof. Central clock turret with ogee lead roof
and vane. Large corniced ridge stacks on returns.

The interior of the courtyard is especially fine and complete. All doors
with quintuple keystones and all windows in keyed, raised alternating-block
surrounds. Side ranges each have 5 bays of carriage arches, 2 elliptical
arches each side of a higher round arch. In the centre of the yard a shelter
of 4 round columns supporting a shallow pyramidal glazed roof with louvred
vent at the apex.
