GV II

Hotel. Early C19. Ashlar with Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 7 bays. Stone
porch with cornice band and frieze inscribed in relief letters POST HORSES.
6-panel inner door and fanlight with intersecting glazing bars. Ground floor
sill band. Sash windows with intermediate glazing bars removed. Gabled roof
with flat coping and kneelers. 4 brick ridge stacks.

Interior has staircase with stick balusters, slender turned newels and ramped
handrail. Several 6-panel doors in panelled reveals; panelled shutters.

Referred to as "a comfortable and excellent inn" by Mackenzie : Northumberland :
Newcastle : 1825.
