26/17 Belsay Village Cross
approx 250 yds east of
Belsay Castle


Medieval cross shaft and base. C14 or C15. Sandstone. Large square base
c.2 ft high with tapering octagonal shaft c.8 ft. high. The shaft has an
oblong base c. 9 x 15 inches, and broach stops at the corners.

Formerly the village cross of Old Belsay Village which was moved by Sir Charles
Monck in the 1830's.
