22/431 Percy Cottage


House. c.1820, rear wing partly C18. Ashlar facade, and brick in English
Garden wall bond. Asbestos tile roof.

Basement plus two storeys, 2 bays. Basement has boarded door flanked by 12-
pane fixed windows. Balcony above on stone brackets has wood railings with
stick balusters. French windows on ground floor, C20 casements above, all
in original openings. 1st floor band. Cornice and broken pediment with wood
roundel bearing quatrefoil. Roof gabled on left, hipped on right.

Right return; L-plan. 1 + 3 bays. C20 conservatory, similar windows. 3
open pediments with similar wood roundels.

Interior: 6-panel doors, staircase with stick balusters. Old chamfered
beams in kitchen.

Drawing room has a series of mural panels, 1822 by J. Ferguson, in the Romantic
style. There are 18 panels in all and subjects include Claudian landscapes,
ruined castles, awesome waterfalls, sea scenes and pastoral landscapes.
