of Blagdon Hall
Folly, early C19. Roughly-squared stone with cut dressings. Gothick style.
A tall piece of wall with a partly-blocked window of 3 pointed-arched lights,
a small 2-light opening above and a Classical scrolly bracket built in above
that; set slightly forward to the right, a lower fragment shows a pointed
doorway with hoodmould. Set in the ground immediately in front is a stone
coffin with part of its lid, plain and of slightly arched section.

Reputedly brought from the medieval hospital site at Hartford Bridge, along
with a small square stone with a simple chip-carved cross,set in the central
light of the blocked window, which might be a C12 headstone (cf. Pittington,
County Durham).
