5/12 Charlton Old Farmhouse

House. C18 and 1830-40. Ashlar facade, rubble elsewhere. Lakeland slate roof
on rear span, Welsh slate on front span. 2 storeys. Double-span roof. Front
block: early C19, 3-bay symmetrical facade with 12-pane sashes and 8-panelled
door in chamfered reveals. One-bay extension to left with later sash windows
is part of older rear span. This part has irregular fenestration in flat raised
surrounds, and round-arched staircase window with intersecting glazing bars.
Other windows C20 sashes. Later C19 gabled porch. Gabled roofs, the rear span
with kneelers. 4 stone gable stacks and one ridge stack.

Interior has, in rear section, an old roughly-constructed staircase. Elsewhere,
6-panelled doors, internal shutters, early C19 staircase with square balusters
and turned newels; and several late C18 or early C19 fireplaces.
