gates c60 yards north
of Hesleyside Hall
GV II

Walls, gate piers and gates. Early C19. Ashlar and wrought-iron. Iron gates,
gate piers and fence in centre, flanked by stone piers and screen walls.
Elaborate square iron gate piers, with scroll motifs and finials in imitation
of strapwork flank gates with fleurs-de-lys finials above half-rail and
elaborate scrolled top. Iron fence also has fleurs-de-lys finials to half-
rail and pyramid finials above top rail. Principal standards are fluted below,
twisted above. Square corniced stone flanking piers with urns are followed by
serpentine screen walls which step down from the piers and end in 2 lower square
piers.
