Town Farmhouse


Planned farmbuildings, c.1830 with later C19 alterations. Coursed roughly-
squared stone with cut dressings,brick chimney; Welsh slate roofs. Ranges
around yard open to south. Central north barn projects to rear with gingang
(later engine house) on east; later C19 range projects into yard to south of

North range 1 storey with lofts; 3 elliptical-headed arches to each side of
barn, those to left with part-slatted windows over. Projecting range has part-
slatted window in south end, and hipped roof. East and west ranges show stable
doors and part-slatted windows. Attached cottage at south end of east range:
south elevation 2 storeys, 2 bays; 6 steps up to boarded door with 2-pane
overlight in left bay, 4-pane sashes in right bay. Brick right end stack.
Attached to left a flat-coped wall, with central entrance closing south side of
yard. South end of west range links to farmhouse (q.v.).

Rear elevation shows projecting threshing barn with circular gingang on left;
4 stone piers, later infill with 16-pane Yorkshire sashes; conical roof. To
rear of gingang tall tapered chimney with flat stone cap.

C20 metal sheds in west part of yard at rear of north range, and Dutch barn
behind east range, not of interest.
