5/297 Garden Cottage

GV II

House, c.1840 by John Dobson, extended mid C20. Tooled squared stone with
tooled-and-margined dressings; slate roof. Original house 2 storeys, 3 bays,
symmetrical. Projecting central bay has altered panelled door under flat-pointed
head in surround with chamfer, stepped on lintel, and hoodmould. Transomed
window over, and steep coped gable on moulded kneelers, with pineapple finial.
Flanking bays have 2-light mullioned windows; all windows small-paned casements
in recessed chamfered surrounds. Banded and corniced end stacks with conjoined.
shafts. Left return shows 1st floor small-paned casement. Added bay to right,
in matching style.
