screen wall adjacent to
Allenmill Bridge

Gate piers and screen wall at entrance to former lead smelting mill, mid Cl9.
Stone. 2 large piers of rock-faced stone with stepped pyramidal caps. Wall
of squared rubble, with boarded door in alternating rock-faced surround,
runs from left pier to 3rd more slender pier built on end of parapet of
Allenmill Bridge (q.v.). The only visible remains of the Allendale Smeltmill
which worked 1692-1896.

Included mainly for group value with Allenmill Bridge.
