GV II

Parish church, 1885 by William Searle Hicks. Squared stone with dressings,
roof of Hardrow tiles. Nave, chancel, south porch and organ chamber. Free C13
style. Plinth, string course at sill level. Nave of 3 bays, with single and
paired lancets; large stepped buttress in centre of west end carries octagonal
belfy with shouldered-arched openings set diagonally and short stone spire.
Simpler bell-cote on east gable of nave carrying an old bell reputed to come
from Lambley Priory. Gabled south porch has chamfered pointed arch beneath
panel with relief fleur-de-lys. 2-bay chancel has 2-light window, small priest's
door and 3-light window on the south and a triplet of lancets in the east end,
with 2 fleur-de-lys panels and a quatrefoil window over. Organ chamber on the
north has 2-light mullioned windows. Interior; triple-chamfered chancel arch
with dogtooth and nailhead ornament, chamfered arch on corbels to organ chamber.
Chancel with quadripartite rib vault, nave with quite elaborate roof structure
combining principal-rafter trusses with trussed rafter forms. Various contemporary
fittings.
