Stable Block and
attached cottage

Cottage C17 and C18, stable block early Cl9. Cottage rubble with dressings,
stable block squared stone with ashlar dressings; C20 Hardrow tile roof.
Elevation to stable yard in 3 parts, each of 2 storeys. To left 3-bay stable:
central boarded double doors with 4-pane overlight flanked by late C19 4-pane
sashes; circular windows above, all in chamfered surrounds. Moulded eaves
cornice; ventilation louvres on ridge. Left return shows boarded door
beneath boarded pitching door with 4-pane overlight. Central part is gabled
bay with external stone stair to 4-panel door, boarded door beneath stair.
Right return 1 bay with 16-pane sashes. Right part, set back, 2 bays with
central renewed door in alternating-block surround; windows altered C20.

Rear elevation: stable with 2 circular windows, central gabled bay showing
massive roughly-shaped quoins and cut-back brick beehive oven; cottage to left
shows blocked lst-floor door in heavy block surround.

Interior: central part of range (tack room with cottage bedroom above)
has large ground-floor fireplace with massive chamfered lintel and domed brick
oven inside on left; blocked doorway (visible from inside stable) has
flattened triangular head in chamfered square frame. Roof of this part retains
old principal-rafter truss with high collar, ridge and 2 levels of purlins.
The central part of the range is the north end of the main block of the old
Healey Hall, largely demolished in 1834. The altered part of the cottage is
included as it forms an integral part of the range.
