Former brewery now terrace of 7 houses (Archway Cottage is 2 flats). Early
C19 with alterations. Coursed rubble and dressings with patches of render on
west range; stone-flagged, concrete-tiled and slate roofs; stone and brick
chimneys. L-plan with added range on rear of Oakland Nurseries. 2 storeys.
South range: each house 3 bays; Archway Cottage at west has elliptical archway;
Melkridge House in centre has 6-panel door and 5-pane overlight in pedimented
stone surround flanked by canted stone bay windows with cornice; Oakland
Nurseries has identical door and surround; 12-pane sashes elsewhere; continuous
steeply-pitched roof with 2 ridge stacks. West range from north to south:
Blairochil; Burnlaw; Nos. 3 and 4; part of Archway Cottage; 10 altered and
scattered openings on ground floor and 6 above; similar roof and chimney details.
2-storey range of former farmbuildings on rear of Oakland Nurseries has 7 ground-
floor openings, 4 above and a low-pitched roof. Occupies important site in
village.
