Townhead Farmhouses

Farmhouse (now divided into 2 dwellings: Nos. 1 and 2 and cottage No. 3).
Early and mid C19 with late C19-early C20 alterations and additions. Coursed
and squared rubble with dressings. Purple slate roofs with dressed stone
chimneys. Single-storey farmhouse raised to 2 storeys in late C19; 6 bays.
Flush quoins. All openings have flush surrounds with alternating jambs. Each
house 3 bays: No. 1 has partly-glazed 4-panel door and replaced sashes; No. 2
has 6-panel door and 2-pane overlight, in projecting surround under corniced
hood, and 16-pane sashes. Continuous low-pitched roof with copings at end and
junction. Stepped stacks with top bands above copings. Cottage on left return
of No. 2: single storey, 6 windows; partly-glazed door and replaced casements;
roof, hipped over left return, has central ridge stack with top band. Altered
single-storey wing on left (former privies/sheds) is not of special interest.
