Description

SIMONBURN HALL BANK
NY 8773
19/151 Simonburn Bridge
II

Single-track road bridge across the Crook Burn. Mid C18 with C19 alterations.
C18 ashlar and C19 snecked stone sections. Both faces identical. Tall, narrow
round arch with set-back voussoirs. In C19 road level above arch was raised
in order to lessen incline of south approach. As a result original parapet
with chamfered coping was rebuilt above an inserted section of snecked-stone
walling. Parapet has rebuilt splayed ends. Rectangular-plan pier with low
pyramidal cap at north-west end of parapet.
