SK 67 SE BOTHAMSALL MAIN STREET
4/12 Nos. 37, 38 & 39
Row of 3 cottages and attached smithy. Late C19. For the
Newcastle Estate. Red brick with ashlar dressings. Tile roofs.
3 large red brick stacks. Ashlar coped gables with moulded ridge
finials, the larger gables with kneelers. Set on a plinth.
Single storey plus attic, 7 bays. The outer bays are gabled and
slightly project. To the right and set back is a further single
bay. Single central tripartite glazing bar casement flanked-by
single doorways and single similar casements with a single
similar casement further right and further left a doorway with
double door, ashlar hinge blocks and chamfered ashlar arch. In
the right bay, set back, is a doorway. All doorways have plank
doors with decorative iron hinges, all windows have ashlar sills
and lintels. Above, single central gabled half dormer with
single pair of pointed arched glazing bar casements with
chamfered ashlar arches over and ashlar lintels. Either side are
single small glazing bar casements with ashlar sills and lintels.
Further left and right are single similar dormers with single
similar pairs of arched casements. In the outer gabled bays are
single similar pairs of arched casements. To the right in the
set back bayis a single similar small casement. In the apex of
each half dormer is a single, recessed rectangular panel with
ashlar sill and lintel. In the apex of each outer gable is a
single ashlar trefoil containing motif.
