Memorial pyramid. c.1800. Ashlar and timber with Westmorland
slate cladding. Square plan with, to north, portico with
Etruscan columns, square capitals and frieze inscribed 'Palman
Qui Mervit Ferat'. Portico interior has walls inscribed, to
left, with names of ships and captains involved in the Battle of
the Nile (August 1798,) and to right, an incomplete verse.
Pyramid interior has round saucer domed chamber with fitted
timber bench and panelled doors. Part of a group of memorials to
the Battle of the Nile, erected by the owner of the Thoresby
Estate, who was a naval officer.
