Canal lock. Late C18. Brick and stone with wooden gates. Brick lock walls have stone kerbs; 2 sets of gate recesses at the western end indicate an early lengthening or once accommodated reverse flow gates. A stone landing stage extends towards the towpath bridge (q.v.). Lower gate and beam are of wood; upper gate renewed 1978. Winch has a gothic-arched cast-iron housing.
