8/151 Featherton House
Substantial house. Mid C17; restored, extended and partly re-modelled C19 for
H.R. Franklin. Coursed squared marlstone with ashlar dressings;
Stonesfield-slate roofs with ashlar stacks. L plan. 2 storeys plus attic.
2-window front, with chamfered plinth, has the gable end of the main range to
right with aligned stone-mullioned windows of 4, 3 and 2 lights, all with
labels; to left are 4-light windows to both floors, and in the centre a
Tudor-arched moulded stone doorway with recessed spandrels and label. Right
return front is a 4-window range with large C19 stone-mullioned windows in
limestone ashlar; a C19 projection in bay has a cartouche of arms set below
its gable window. Principal windows in both fronts have C19 sashes to each
light. A lower C19 bay extending from the end of the longer range has a
Tudor-arched carriage entry. There is a further subsidiary range to left of the
front range. All gables have parapets with projecting moulded kneelers. Stacks
have limestone shafts with moulded caps on marlstone plinths. Interior not
