5/273 Coldharbour Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. Late C17/early C18 altered C20. Limestone and marlstone rubble with
wooden lintels and some marlstone-ashlar dressings; concrete plain-tile and
Stonesfield-slate roofs with stone-and-brick gable stacks. 2-unit plan with
service bay and 2 rear wings. 2 storeys plus attic and 2 storeys. Irregular
3-window front has renewed casements of 3, 2 and 3 lights at first floor, and of
3-lights to left at ground floor; the right window at ground floor has been
lowered to become a French window, and the central doorway has become a large
casement. Steep-pitched roof has gable parapets with projecting kneelers.
Single-storey service bay to right has a stone-slate roof. Left end wall of main
range has a gable window and a stone-mullioned cellar window, and it returns to
one of 2 adjoining marlstone 2-storey rear wings, both probably slightly later.
Interior: stop-chamfered spine beams; large open fireplace with stop-chamfered
cambered bressumer. C20 link and converted farm buildings are not of special
architectural interest.
