5/278 North Aston Millhouse and
attached bridge

Mill and millhouse, now a dwelling, plus bridge. Probably C17/early C18,
converted C20. Limestone rubble with wooden lintels; Stonesfield-slate and
thatch roofs with brick stacks. Long mill range plus smaller linked domestic
range at right angles. 2 storeys plus attic and single storey. Taller mill
range, built across 2 channels of the millstream, has numerous small scattered
windows, all with C20 casements; central doorway is positioned above the
headrace. Steep-pitched roof has C20 roof dormers. Lower thatched range projects
from right end and has renewed casements except for an old single-light window
with lattice glazing. A paved area at the rear, extending across both channels,
is retained by a rubble wall containing 2 rubble arches. Interior not inspected,
but noted as containing much of the mill gear although the water wheel has been
