SP 6200 LITTLE MILTON GORE STREET
14/86 Fletcher Farmhouse
Farmhouse. Early-mid C17. Coursed limestone rubble; old plain-tile roof with
brick ridge-stack. 2-unit lobby-entry plan. 2 storeys plus attics. 3-window
front with leaded oak-mullioned windows to first floor of 3, 2 and 3 lights,
ovolo-moulded with dentils on the heads; 2-light stone-mullioned windows, some
blocked, to 3 floors on gable walls, and remains of 3-row dovecote in left
gable. 3-light stone mullioned window and stair window on rear wall. Single-
storey rear wing to left, probably C18. Interior: Massive central stack with
blocked fireplaces and flanking dog-leg stair with heavy turned balusters;
chamfered beams, some with lozenges carved on stops; heavy door-frames with
moulded chamfer-stops and 3-plank doors. Wrongly shown on O.S. sheet as Wells
(V.C.H. Oxfordshire. till, p.121; Oxoniensia Vol.25, pp.58-61; Buildings of
England: Oxfordshire, p.688).
