GV II

House. Early C17. Coursed squared limestone rubble with timber lintels; stone
slate and old plain-tile roofs with brick and stone stacks on rendered stone
bases. T-plan. 2 storeys plus attics. 3-window main range facing street has at
first floor a 3-light small-pane casement flanked by 20-pane sashes, and at
ground floor 3-renewed casements. 2-light ovolo-moulded wooden casement in
right gable wall. Entrance in left gable wall. Rear wing facing to left is of 2
unit baffle-entry plan. Massive clustered central stack with the gnomon of a
sundial. A lateral stack projects to left. At first floor are ovolo-moulded
casements of 4, one and 3 lights with C18/C19 casements at ground floor, and a
2-light roof dormer to right. In the angle of the ranges is a brick outshut.
There are further ovolo-moulded frames to the rear. Interior: Partly re-
modelled, probably in the early C19, but has chamfered and stopped beams at
ground and first floors and C18 joinery. 2 bedrooms have stone Tudor-arched
fireplaces with moulded surrounds and stops. Single row of butt-purlins to
roof. Garden has a high stone wall (q.v.). Partly bordering Long Wall (q.v.).
