Description

BECKLEY AND STOWOOD CHURCH STREET
SP51SE (East side)
Beckley
2/23 Nos.2 and 3

GV II

Two small houses. Possibly C17, altered later. Limestone rubble, partly coursed,
with timber lintels and some blue-brick quoins; thatched roof with brick stacks,
Single- and 2-unit plans with added rear outshuts. One storey plus attics,
3-window front has plank doors between three 2-light casements with three
2-light dormers. Door and right window of No.2, to right, have blue-brick
quoins. Left bay (No.3) is of coursed rubble and is probably a C18 addition. Sun
insurance plaque above doorway to No.3. Right gable wall shows an earlier roof
line at a much lower level and a blocked doorway. Interiors not inspected.
Possibly originally a single dwelling.
