Gates and screen. Early C18. Wrought iron on limestone ashlar dwarf wall.
Baroque style. Plain railings flank double gates, with elaborate scrollwork in
the side pilasters, and overthrow incorporating shields and informal foliage.
The details of the pilasters, and of the gates with their scrollwork lock rails
and arrow dogbars, are very similar to the Ditchley Gate at Blenheim Palace. The
gates lie on one of the cross axes of the important early C18 layout of the
formal garden created for General James Tyrrell.
