EYE AND DUNSDEN PLAYHATCH
9/56 The Crown Public House
Public House. Possibly C16 with C18, C19 and C20 alterations. Red brick
with flared headers; timber frame wing with brick infill to left; plain old
tile roof; brick stacks. Probably originally lobby-entry plan. 2 storey,
2-window range with lower 2 storey wing projecting to left. Central C20
timber-frame porch with C20 sash door; gabled tiled roof, 3-light C19 casement
to right, 2-light C19 casement above porch and 3-light C19 casement to right
first floor. Irregular C19 fenestration of casements to left return of wing.
Hipped roof to range with ridge stack to left of centre and end stack to right.
Queen-post truss visible to gable end of wing. Interior: Chamfered beams with
end stops survive. Subsidiary feature C19 single storey brick wing projects to
left with 2-bay barn, possibly C18, weather boarded and thatched to end.
