5/109 Flint House
Country House, now offices. 1913 by Ernest Newton for F.N. Garrard, with late
C20 alterations. Unknapped flint with stone dressings; plain tile roof; brick
stacks. H-shaped plan. Tudor style. 2 storeys and attic; 7-window range. 5-bay
centre with single-bay cross wings to left and right. Central 2 storey porch
with round arched doorway with original half-glazed double doors. Irregular
fenestration of stone mullioned windows. Hood moulds to windows to first-floor
centre. Continuous hood moulds to first floor cross-wings. Right return: 3
arches to centre. Cross window to left and right. 4-light mullioned window to
first floor centre. 2-light mullioned window to left and right. 3-light
mullioned window to cross gable to centre flanked by lateral stacks. Rear:
Symmetrical facade. Central 2-storey angled bay. 5-light mullion and transom
windows to ground floor. 5-light mullioned windows to first floor. Interior:
Survival of original fireplaces. Open well staircase with wood balustrade. Late
C20 wing to left.
