House. Late medieval, right cross wing has late C16/early C17 rear bay. Clad in
C17 and C18 brick walling except right wing of rectangular timber framing with
tension-braced first-floor front gable and arch-braced first-floor right side
wall with exposed ends of joists. Old tile roof; brick stacks. T-plan of hall
house and right solar wing. One storey and attic; 2-storey right wing; 3-bay
range to left. C20 door and late C19/C20 two-light casements. Gabled roof; late
Cl6 ridge stack and rear right gable-end external stack. Timber-framed outshut
to right side wall. 2-light leaded casement with diamond panes to rear.
Interior: left range has 2 smoke-blackened full crucks; through-splayed scarf
joints to through purlins and wall plates; truss to right has chamfered arch
braces. Hall remodelled in late C16/early C17 by insertion of brick stack
against passage and floor: chamfered ogee-stopped beam, open fireplace with
swing-bar for pots. Right wing: chamfered doorway to front room with flat laid
joists; shoulder-headed doorway to winder stairs; curved windbraces of obscured
roof and original rear wall of tension-bracing over arch-bracing. Chamfered beam
in C17 rear bay. C17/early C18 plank and ribbed doors; old brick floor.
