9/18 Crossways

House. Early C17 with late C17 extension and front. Roughcast on timber framing
to right, roughcast on brick to left; old plain-tile roof with gablet to right;
brick end stack to left, ridge stack to rear right. 2-unit lobby-entry with late
C17 addition at right-angles forming front to road. 2-storey, 5-window range.
6-panel door to centre with wood lattice porch. Original wood cross-windows with
original leaded lights to all openings. Flat rendered band between ground and
first floor. Dentil cornice to eaves. Rear: timber frame with brick infill to
left, red brick with grey headers to right. Irregular fenestration. Flat brick
band between ground and first floor to right. Interior: late C17 stone
chequer-pattern floor to hall. Open well stairs to first floor; winder stairs to
attic. Chamfered spine beams to ground floor. Blocked fireplaces. Most doors
late C17; 2-panel to ground floor, plank to first floor, with C18 brass handles
and locks. Timber framing with angle braces visible to bedrooms to first floor
right. Queen-post roof construction.
