GV II*

Bridge and causeway. 1814-16 by Francis Sandys. Limestone ashlar and coursed
squared rubble. Central portion of the bridge is in ashlar with a segmental
arch, cornice and balustraded parapet between wide piers; flanking rubble
sections each have 2 smaller arches, and the plain band and rubble parapet
continue along the causeways. The western causeway sweeps round towards the
north, with square ashlar piers terminating the outward curving parapets, and
has a small arch halfway along. The eastern causeway is straight, the parapet
curves outwards only on the south, and there is a small arch at the eastern end.
The inner faces of the main piers have recessed stone seats.
