10/21 Nos. 38 and 39 Marsh Baldon


Pair of cottages. Late C17/early C18, extended early C19 and C20. Timber framing
with brick infill and brick, old plain-tile roofs with brick gable stacks.
Single-unit plans with added rear outshuts and extensions. One storey plus
attics. Timber-framed 2-window front of earlier section has, to left (No.38), a
plank door and a 3-light casement; adjoining former doorway to No.39 is now a
window and there is a further C20 casement to right of it. Roof has 2 gabled
2-light dormers. To left of range is a single-storey gable-fronted early C19
extension in buff brick; to right, also breaking forward, is the gable wall, a
large late C20 brick extension which returns to rear. Rear of main range has
been extended, probably in early C19, below a shallower-pitched roof. Interior
not inspected. Included for group value.
