Nuneham House

Terraces. 1832 by William Sawrey Gilpin for Archbishop Harcourt. Limestone
ashlar with squared coursed rubble walling. The terrace walls extend round 3
sides of the main block of Nuneham House (q.v.) with a double-tier terrace in
front of Smirke's south wing. The balustrades run between square ashlar piers
capped with stone balls, urns and baskets of fruit, and are broken by flights of
stone steps. The terraces formerly extended further to the west. Included for
group value.
