NUNEHAM COURTENAY NUNEHAM PARK
12/94 Gate to walled garden approx.
400m. E of Nuneham House
Gate and gatepiers. Gates probably C18; piers probably rebuilt late C19/early
C20. Wrought-iron gates; brick piers with limestone caps. Gate has a deep
scrolled lock rail and ornamental panels flanking the central opening section;
the elaborate scrolled overthrow has some repousse work. The square piers have
moulded caps. The gateway is at the eastern end of the main east-west axis of
the walled garden which is defined by a tunnel of apple trees.
(Nuneham Park is included in the HBMC County Register of Gardens at Grade I).
