SU5498
12/189 Dairy Cottage

- II

House. Late C18/early C19. Whitewashed brick and slate roof. Brick stacks and
central ridge louvre to dairy. Single-storey dairy, now part of house, with
2-storey brick extensions. Hexagonal model dairy has part-glazed 2-leaved door
within shallow porch with narrow piers. To either side are round-headed 2-light
casements with glazing bars and transoms. Wide projecting eaves. To sides and
rear are lean-tos and extensions with sash windows. Entrance to rear. Interior:
dairy retains original slate dairy furniture including central table, now with
wooden protective cover. The dairy is probably contemporary with the alterations
made to Nuneham House (q.v.) in c.1800 and the extensions made in early/mid C19.
