Mainly late C15 - early C16 with C13 tower and rebuilt spire (1888) and
C13 east wall to two north aisles.
Wide nave of four arcades, with octagonal piers and moulded arches. Two
broad aisles on north and south; outer south aisle built 1539.
Between the steeple and the two storeyed north porch is a structure
formerly of two storeys, reputedly a priest's dwelling.
Chancel details of Woodyer, 1873. Church restored by Scott in 1888.
Notable painted wood panelled ceiling in chapel of north aisle circa 1390.
Originally thirteen pairs of arched and cinquefoiled panels, each one
painted with a full length figure on a vermilion background, standing on
a continuous vine stem and representing Old Testament prophets and Kings,
an unusual rendering of a Tree of Jesse, but with last four panels
depicting St Joseph and an Annunciation group. Pulpit 1636. Font by
H P Peyman of Abingdon is a copy of that at Sutton Courtenay, and was
shown at the 1851 Exhibition.
