11/160 Craven Cottage


House. Early C17, extended mid/late C18. Chalk ashlar on sarsen base, brick
dressings; uncoursed chalk rubble to sides and rear, chalk quoins to right
(C17); thatched roof; brick stacks. L-plan, 2 storey, 3-window range. Moulded
architrave to planked door, with C20 flat hood and trellised porch; brick
segmental arches with chalk keys over 3-light C20 casements: brick storey and
eaves bands; gabled to left, hipped to right; symmetrical end stacks, rear end
stack. Interior: 2-unit C17 house with mid/late C18 extension behind left
section of contemporary front; rear room has original C17 fireplace with
chamfered bressummer and deep chamfered beam, with half-pyramidal stop, which
is morticed into timber - framed partition wall; complete set of chamfered
beams and joists; rear first floor room has C17 fireplace with chamfered
bressummer; collar-truss; roof with butt purlins.
