House. C17, remodelled in late C18. Uncoursed chalk rubble, brick dressings and
colourwashed, over original timber-frame; chalk and sarsen to left gable wall
with brick bands; old tile roof; brick stacks. 3-unit lobby entry L-plan.
2-storey, 3-window range. Flat hood over 4-panelled late C19 door. Segmental
brick arches over 3-light late C19 casements; C20 casement to ground -floor
right. Gabled roof, end and ridge stacks. Interior: chamfered bressumer over
open fireplace in centre right room; grate of c.1840 in left room; chamfered
and stopped beams, many common joists replaced, to both floors; 6-bay C17 roof,
originally part of a timber-framed structure of collar-trusses with butt
purlins; some timber-framing exposed in ground floor right wall continues
through single-bay wing to rear right. Late C18 1 1/2-storey wing to rear left;
brick, random bond brick tile roof; brick end stack; 2 and 3-light leaded
casements, 6-light full dormer with supporting brackets and panelled apron.
This house, adjoining the Baker's Arms, was a Baker's shop until the mid C20.
