5/9 Manor Farmhouse
Farmhouse. C18, right bay added in late C18. Coursed limestone rubble with
limestone ashlar quoins and plinth, and brick window dressings; right bay in
Flemish bond brick; left side wall is roughcast, right in chalk rubble on brick
base; rear wall in Flemish bond brick with late C19 brick wall to first floor
addition. Stone slate roof, except late C19 tiles to rear right cross gabled
extension; brick stacks. 2-unit central staircase plan with original rear
outshut given extra storey in late C19. 2 storeys; 4-window range. Carved
brackets to flat hood over 4-panelled door with overlight. Flat brick arches
over early C19 sashes; blocked window to ground floor right and early C19 bays
with sashes flank door. Many windows cut through jambs of earlier windows.
Gabled roof; 3 internal stacks at junction of main block with rear wings. Rear
right cross gabled wall built up in late C19 from original outshut; rear wall
has segmental brick arches over one mid/late C19 three-light and one late C19
two-light casement. Interior: stone flag floor, late C19 tiles to hall; C18
plank doors and mid C19 two-and 4-panelled doors. Late C19 fireplaces except
that in rear right kitchen with original swinging pot-bar. All reroofed c.1911
Subsidiary features: 2-storey cheese room over dairy to rear left, built of
random bond brick with stone slate roof; 3-window range, segmental arches over
C20 casements except C18 two-light casements to right of plank door. Gabled
roof; axial brick stack. Interior has chamfered beams, and 3-bay collar truss
roof with butt purlins. Late C19 open sided brewhouse to rear right.
