5/11 Chestnut Cottage and Loder's


House. Chestnut Cottage (right) dated 1724 on quoin; Loder's Cottage is probably
earlier. Chestnut Cottage has uncoursed limestone rubble and squared and coursed
chalk walling, brick window jambs and chalk quoins. Loder's Cottage has coursed
limestone rubble walling. Stone slate roof; brick stacks. Two-unit lobby-entry
outshut plan extended to 3 units. c.1724; 2 storeys; 3-window range. Timber
lintel over C20 plank door; C20 porch; left gable entry to Loder's Cottage; C20
casements with timber lintels except flat stone arch to left of door. Half
hipped roof; left end and ridge stacks. Interior: plain chamfered beams
bressumer over fireplace to Chestnut Cottage.
