6/98 The White House


House. Early C18, refronted in c.1860. Coursed limestone rubble, rendered front
and right side wall; mid C19 brick, painted white to right side wall and mid C19
brick, painted white, to left side wall: Welsh slate and artificial stone slate
roof; stacks rendered in mid C19. 3-unit plan. 2 storeys; 4-window range.
Central door blocked and rendered. Mid C19 three-light sashes in moulded wood
architraves. Gabled roof; 2 gable-end stacks and one ridge stack. Flat stone
arches over all openings to rear. To rear left is mid C19 lean-to extension
adjoining a mid C19 gabled outhouse with a 2-light leaded casement. Interior:
Mid C19 shutters and 6- and 2-panelled doors. Stone flag floor to centre room.
Chamfered beams. To left of centre room is open fireplace with wood bressumer,
the stack adjoins a winder staircase which has an early C18 turned newel post at
the top.
