9/220 Nos.3 to 7 (consecutive)


Row of 5 cottages. Nos. 3 to 5 (to right) comprise C18 remodelling of earlier
C16/C17 row. Nos. 6 and 7 are probably C18. Coursed limestone rubble, painted
white; thatched roof; brick stacks. Single-unit cottages. 2 storeys; 6-window
range. Chamfered timber lintels over six C20 doors and casements except mid-late
C19 two-light casements to left of door to No.3. Gabled roof; 2 gable end and 2
ridge stacks. C19 fixed light casement to rear of No.4. Interior: Cottages have
C18 and C19 plank doors. Tie beams with pegholes for braces and dovetail joints
and tenoned into post visible in part of No.4 show that Nos. 3 to 5 were
originally timber framed: no access to loft.
