House converted into stables in C18 and garage in C20, Late C16/early C17.
Dressed and coursed limestone has replaced original timber-framed walling; stone
slate roof to sides and rear, old tile roof with stone slate farwells to front.
3-unit plan. 2 storeys; 2-window range. Timber lintels over plank and stable
doors to left, inserted garage opening to right. Half hipped roof. Interior:
4-bay queen post roof with butt purlins. Tie beams have dovetail joints proving
previous existence of timber frame walling and are tenoned into partitions;
first floor room to right is divided in two by an axial timber framed partition
and chamfered beams remain at first-floor level also. Subsidiary features: C18
cartshed attached to right wall built in similar materials has 5-bay mid C20
roof and much restored posts resting on stone pads at front.
