Manor house. C12 origins. C16, with C17 alterations. Stone coursed rubble to
ground floor: roughcast probably on timber-framing to first floor; cross-gable
old plain-tile roof; various brick stacks, some rebuilt C20. U-plan. 2 storeys
and attic; 5-window range, the right 2 bays project. Plank door to centre with
overlight. Irregular fenestration mostly of C20 casements to original openings,
those to first floor have floating cornices. 5 cross-gables, each with 2-light
casement and richly carved bargeboards. Left return: stone coursed rubble to
ground floor; close-studded timber-framing to first floor with rendered infill.
2 storeys and attic: 5-window range. Irregular fenestration of casements, with
Ipswich window to first floor centre. Right return: 5-bay loggia to ground
floor, having Doric columns supporting flattened arches with central pineapple
pendant bosses. Ipswich windows to first floor, with Doric pilasters between and
Corinthian pilasters to ends, Rear: 3-bay central range with cross-wings. Left
cross-wing has flattened arches with central pineapple pendant bosses. Ipswich
windows to first floor with Corinthian pilasters between supporting cornice with
pulvinated frieze. Interior: late C17 dog-leg staircase with baluster
balustrade, from ground floor to attic of main range. Arch-braced collar truss
roof to north range. Raised base-cruck trusses to main range with cusping below
collar. Cl6 four-centre arched stone fireplace to dining room.
