The Bunch of Grapes
23.4.52 Public House
Public House. C17 core recased in the mid C20. Mild rock faced effect to coursed
rubblestone with stone dressings and gabled stone tiled roofs. The original
materials were render and timber framing. L-shaped plan with small terrace
overlooking the Market Place. Two storeys and attic. Most refronted facades
have 2 and 3-light mullioned windows with dripstones replacing the original early
C18 sashes. Mock Tudor arched doorway on E front. The W wing on its S front
facing the terrace retains an original 5-light mullion window to the upper floor
and a similar window to the lower floor but with only 3 lights surviving. Both
are in the process of being cemented. Included for group value.
