CHIPPING NORTON WEST STREET

Former house, now shop. Circa 1820s of finely jointed ashlar to the roadside
facade and rubblestone behind with a shallow pitched hipped machine tiled roof
and side stone stacks, that to the S with brick cap. Deeply projecting moulded
eaves cornice. Three storeys, 3-window range. Six-pane sashes to top floor,
12-pane sashes to first floor and large C20 12-pane windows to ground floor set
within round headed recesses linked by a string course. Porch attached to
adjoining 2-storey, one-bay section on the N is open supported by a fluted column
which rises to a box cornice and a verandah formed by good Regency ironwork of
roundels and acanthus. Six-panel door with upper panels fielded and a rectangular
fanlight. (Note: First floor windows are new PVC replacements, 12 panes (inserted
since resurvey in 1983)).
