House. Probably C15 in origin, truncated; remodelled mid-late C19. Rubble with
Cotswold stone roof. In plan a slightly projecting gabled (? solar) wing to left
and short bay (? truncated hall) to right. Steep-pitched roofs, 3 corniced chimneys,
two on ridge of right-hand part, one a projecting gabled structure to left return of
'solar' wing with long catslide, small pointed light to south and plain stairlight
to east. The main gable (to south) has one range of mullion windows, 4-light arch-
headed with label on first floor, 3-light in double-chamfered reveals on ground
floor. Plain doorway to right of this. The set-back bay has gabled half-dormer and
a window below. The gabled ('solar') wing has a return elevation of 3 windows
irregularly spaced, some with glazing bar sashes, and a doorway with gabled porch;
one range of small windows to entrance left (stairs originally?) and bread-oven
projection at north end.
Interior: the ground floor of the 'solar' wing is divided by 4 large chamfered beams
with pyramidal stops; modern inglenook fireplace, apparently cusped timber braces to
lintel removed in modernisation. On first floor a tall plaster barrel vaulted
chamber, fireplace (on east side) with heavy stone lintel and chamfered surround,
apparent truss ends. Simple roof structure altered C18 and C19; trenched purlins
above chamber. Wide newel stair in angle with 'hall' range. The 'hall' range has
inaccessible roof and on ground floor a chamfered basket arch doorway with wooden
lintel (blocked) on north side; matching south doorway modern. Possibly the back of
a screens passage with spere-truss removed and replaced by masonry closing wall or,
more likely, the upper end of a hall with smart parlour and solar over. The stairs
are post-mediaeval (C19 remodelling) and so their position need not be significant.
