5/26 Quarry House, barn,
sheltersheds and attached
Cottage and barn plus shelter sheds. c.1830. Coursed squared marlstone with
marlstone- and limestone-ashlar dressings; Stonesfield-slate roofs with ashlar
gable stack. Main range has 3-bay barn with central porch plus single-bay
double-depth cottage. Porch has marlstone-ashlar buttresses and a weatherboarded
gable; outer bays have ogee-headed slits. Cottage to left has a pair of 2-light
stone-mullioned windows above a 3-light mullioned window, all with limestone
dressings and labels. Left gable wall has a segmental-arched chamfered-stone
doorway and is flanked by short buttresses with sloping weatherings. Roof has
gable parapets with moulded kneelers and has a stack to left. Opposed barn doors
to rear. Shelter sheds, running 6 bays from rear and returning 5 bays to right
have circular stone piers with caps and bases. Interiors not inspected. Attached
farmyard wall, approx. 1.5m. high, continues to right fron rear range, with a
2-course triangular coping, and returns along right side of yard, with a flat
coping, curving outwards to the central gate.
