10/29 Nos.65 and 66 (Butchers Hill
Two cottages. Mid C19. Coursed squared marlstone with limestone-ashlar
dressings; Westmorland-slate roofs and marlstone-ashlar stacks with limestone
shafts. Single range with cross wing. C17 style. One storey plus attic. 2-window
main range has a central chamfered doorway with a pointed-segmental arch and has
stone-mullioned windows of 2 and 3 lights, all with labels. Doorway breaks
forward flush with right bay which has a large gable with a pointed slit;
stone-gabled half dormer in left bay. Crosswing to left projects further and has
a 2-light mullioned window above a 4-light bay window with a stone roof; pointed
slit in gable. Left return wall has similar windows and a central porch with an
arched entrance. All windows have honeycomb lattice glazing. Roofs have gable
parapets with projecting kneelers. Grouped stacks have square moulded caps.
Interiors have slate stairs and concrete first floors.
